How to get the Junimo pet in Terraria
How the crossover works
Stardew Valley crossover content is tied to a single key item — the Stardrop. Once you have it, the rest of the collaboration's items become obtainable: the Junimo among them.
The general pattern for Terraria crossovers is the same:
- Update to 1.4.5 or later. PC is on 1.4.5.8; console, mobile and Switch are on 1.4.5.8.1.
- Meet the crossover's unlock condition in your world. This is what puts the crossover content into circulation.
- Acquire the key item — for this set, the Stardrop. The key item usually comes from a specific, limited source rather than from the general loot pool.
- Collect the set. With the key item in hand, the remaining items enter drops, chests and crafting.
The Junimo pet
The Junimo is a town pet. Mechanically that means three things:
- It follows you between biomes and settles in your town.
- It does not need a house, so it consumes no housing space and never displaces a resident.
- It counts towards crowding in your NPCs' happiness calculations.
That last one catches people out. Your NPCs measure the number of neighbours inside 25 tiles, and pets are included. A second pet inside the radius can tip an NPC out of the solitude bonus, which costs you 5% on everything they sell.
What else is in the Stardew Valley set
The Junimo is the pet, but it is not the whole collaboration. The set also includes a themed furniture set, a handful of outfits, and a couple of pieces of equipment.
The furniture is the part most collectors finish last and enjoy most. Crossover furniture tends to be the most characterful thing you can put in a Terraria house, because it is designed in the collaboration's visual language rather than Terraria's own. Round, warm, and slightly absurd in a way that suits Stardew Valley's tone perfectly.
Furniture also drops at lower rates than weapons and pets, so it is worth a dedicated session rather than being picked up incidentally.
| Item type | Drop rate relative to the set | Best approach |
|---|---|---|
| The Junimo pet | Common once unlocked | Pick it up incidentally |
| Outfits | Moderate | Farm during the crossover event |
| Furniture | Low | One dedicated session with duplication |
Why the Junimo is a good first pet to chase
The pet is the headline of the set, and it is the most cheerful of the 1.4.5 additions. But the practical reason to chase it first is simple: it is in the friendliest set. The Palworld crossover brings pets that are charming but sit behind a crossover unlock, and the Project Zomboid set is smaller. Stardew Valley's crossover is the one people tend to finish.
Other things worth knowing
Crossover sets are permanent and version-locked. Everything from the Stardew Valley collaboration stays in your world, and nothing about it expires. There is also no way to play a version without it — it is simply part of the game from 1.4.5 onwards.
Journey Mode is the fast path. If you are in Journey Mode, you can research the key item once you have seen it and then duplicate it, which turns a rare grind into a short one. The Journey Mode guide covers how research and duplication actually work.
The pet is not a stat booster. If you are optimising a build, the pet slot is worth more spent on something functional. The best accessories guide has the tier list by stage.
A note on versions
Crossover content requires 1.4.5 or later. This guide is written against 1.4.5.8 on PC. Console and mobile run 1.4.5.8.1, and Switch has historically trailed the others by about a week, so a Switch player reading this may need to wait before the set appears in their build. The version differences page covers exactly which build has what.
The Junimo is a small, round, colour-shifting creature from Stardew Valley, and it arrived in Terraria as part of the Stardew Valley crossover items. It is a cosmetic pet, like the Spiffo plush, but it comes from the larger and friendlier of the two 1.4.5 crossover sets.
