Terraria 1.4.6 crossplay: what is confirmed and what is not
Terraria's next major version, 1.4.6 "Pulling It All Together", has been announced and is described as being in final testing — but there is no release date, and the announcement was about crossplay rather than content. Here is what is actually confirmed, what is not, and why planning around a date is a mistake.
What is confirmed
| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| Version number and subtitle | 1.4.6 "Pulling It All Together" |
| Release date | None published |
| Focus | Crossplay Phase One |
| Platform status | In final testing and platform certification |
Re-Logic's own State of the Game post, from late September 2026, described 1.4.6 as Crossplay Phase One and said it was in final testing and being prepared for platform certification.
What Phase One includes
- Local network play on console. Console players can join a session on the same local network.
- Direct IP-and-port connections. You can connect to a specific address rather than relying on a lobby.
And what it explicitly does not include:
- The join-code system. A code that works across different networks without router configuration is a later phase, and is not part of 1.4.6 as described.
What is not confirmed
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Release date | Not published. Any date you see is an estimate |
| New content or bosses | Not announced. The focus is crossplay |
| Whether worlds change format | Not announced |
Why it matters anyway
Even without a date, crossplay is worth understanding because it changes what you can plan:
- Multiplayer sessions get easier. Local-network console play removes the "everyone has to be on the same platform" friction for people in the same house.
- Direct IP connections remove the lobby. Useful for a group that wants to run a private server.
- Your world does not move because of it. Worlds have transferred between platforms for years. Crossplay is about how players connect, not where saves live.
What to do with it
Nothing, right now, except not planning around it. The practical advice:
- Do not hold off content for 1.4.6. The 1.4.5 new items guide covers what is live now, and 1.4.5's 650+ items and nine new whips are a much bigger deal for your build than a multiplayer feature.
- Check the official forum for the build numbers when it ships, and compare against the version differences page.
- If you play with friends on different platforms, the improvement is real and will land whenever certification completes.
One version-related exception worth knowing, because it confuses people who encounter it: in Get fixed boi worlds the happiness system is disabled entirely, and pylons are sold by any NPC with a shop as long as one other NPC is nearby. That is a seed-specific rule rather than a version rule, and it is covered in the NPC housing guide.
