Terraria secret seeds list: every modifier and how to combine them
Version 1.4.5 rebuilt world creation around a seed menu, and the most interesting part is not any single seed — it is that special seeds can now be combined and stacked. That turns the seed system from a one-option picker into a difficulty dial you set yourself.
How the new seed menu works
- At world creation, click the seed icon next to the world seed field.
- A panel opens listing every available special seed type.
- Pick one, apply it, and generate.
- Repeat the process to add more modifiers on top.
What changed from 1.4.4: seeds are now a menu of named modifiers rather than something you type into a text box, and the game remembers which ones you have discovered. Once you have used a modifier, it becomes selectable again.
The count that differs
| Source | Number |
|---|---|
| Official wiki unlock list | 37 discoverable modifiers |
| Community tools counting what can be typed in the seed box | 35 |
The gap is real, and the difference is usually explained as the wiki counting modifiers that are unlocked through gameplay rather than typed as a string. Rather than picking a number and repeating it, this page points at the discrepancy itself — because a guide that hides its uncertainty is worth less than one that names it.
The modifiers worth knowing
Rather than list 37 names that will be out of date in three months, here are the categories that matter, and one or two examples in each.
| Category | What it changes | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Survival rework | Removes or inverts your starting resources | The Skyblock seed makes slime your entire economy |
| Enemy rule changes | Spawn rates, sizes, or behaviour | Modifiers that toggle enemy behaviour across the world |
| World structure | Terrain generation and layout | Planetoid-style floating world changes |
| Difficulty | Raises or lowers the challenge in specific ways | Modifiers that make the world permanently harder |
| Night-time rules | What happens after dark | Modifiers that turn night into a permanent state |
Combining seeds, and the rule that trips people up
The combination rules are simple in principle:
- Modifiers that toggle rule changes stack. Two of them mean both changes are active at once.
- Some modifiers conflict. If two seeds contradict each other, the game resolves it — but which one wins is not always obvious.
- Skyblock is the one everybody combines, because it changes the economy rather than a single rule.
The practical consequence is that a Skyblock world with two extra modifiers is a substantially harder run than Skyblock alone, and the difficulty curve is not linear.
How to find the list for yourself
- Open the seed menu in-game and look at what is available and what you have discovered.
- Check the official wiki's seed list for the full set with unlock conditions.
- Compare against a community tool if you want to know which ones are typeable directly.
The third step is worth doing once, because the difference between the two lists is exactly the set of modifiers you can use without unlocking them first.
