How to get the Zenith in Terraria

Terraria10 min readVerified on patch 1.4.5.8

The Zenith is the final sword in Terraria, and it is the item most players picture when they picture a completed save. Crafting it is not difficult — it is a gathering problem, because each ingredient comes from a different mid-tier boss.

The five components

SwordSourceNotes
Seedler's BroochQueen BeeJungle, before Hardmode
Blade of DarknessEater of WorldsThe worm, not the Brain
Light's BaneBrain of CthulhuThe brain, not the Eater
The Horseman's BladeSkeletron PrimeOne of the three mechanical bosses
SunfurySolar PillarThe first celestial pillar

You need one of each, and they are not interchangeable. Getting the Blade of Darkness and Light's Bane confused is the classic early mistake — the Eater of Worlds drops the sword that shoots a shadow blade, and the Brain of Cthulhu drops the one that shoots a light beam.

Warning: Both bosses must be beaten. Some players assume the two "evil boss" swords come from the same source. They do not. The Eater of Worlds and the Brain of Cthulhu each drop one, and the Queen Bee drops the third.

Crafting it

The Zenith is crafted at an Anvil, with all five swords in your inventory. No other materials are needed — that is the entire crafting requirement.

The route in order:

 1. Beat the Queen Bee → Seedler's Brooch
 2. Beat the Eater of Worlds → Blade of Darkness
 3. Beat the Brain of Cthulhu → Light's Bane
 4. Beat Skeletron Prime → The Horseman's Blade
 5. Beat the Solar Pillar → Sunfury
 6. Craft at an Anvil
Do the pillar last. The Sunfury requires the pillars to be attackable, which means after the Moon Lord — and by then you will have the other four swords anyway. Doing the pillars in the middle means farming two pillars' worth of content before you can finish the sword.

What the Zenith actually does

The summoning behaviour is the part people underrate. A sword that throws a blade, a light beam and a shadow blade at once is not a bigger number — it is a different weapon behaviour, and it is why the Zenith stays relevant rather than being simply outclassed.

Is it worth it?

Honestly, for a general playthrough: yes, but it is not the last boss you need. The Moon Lord is, and the Moon Lord's weapons are what most players actually use in Hardmode.

The Zenith matters because:

If you want to finish the game efficiently, fight the Moon Lord. If you want the melee class's signature weapon, craft the Zenith. Both are correct answers to different questions.

If you are short on time

The fastest legitimate route is Journey Mode. Research each of the five components once, spawn them, and craft. The duplication guide covers the mechanics, and the Journey Mode guide covers unlocking the mode.

For the armour that pairs with it, see the Solar armour recipe.

How do you craft the Zenith in Terraria?
The Zenith is the final sword, crafted from five swords: Seedler's Brooch, the Blade of Darkness, Light's Bane, The Horseman's Blade and the Sunfury. You need one of each, and each comes from a different mid-tier boss.
Is the Zenith the best weapon in Terraria?
It is the strongest melee sword, and it can summon all three previous swords at once. Whether it outperforms other endgame options depends on your class — a good ranged or magic weapon can beat it in a speedrun context, but for general melee it is the best in the game.
Where do I get the five swords for the Zenith?
Seedler's Brooch from the Queen Bee, Blade of Darkness from the Eater of Worlds, Light's Bane from the Brain of Cthulhu, The Horseman's Blade from Skeletron Prime, and the Sunfury from the Solar Pillar.
Can you craft the Zenith in Terraria Journey Mode?
Yes. Once you have researched each of the five components, you can spawn them and craft the Zenith without collecting them the hard way.
What does the Zenith do in Terraria 1.4.5.8?
Beyond its damage, the Zenith was given a Shimmer transmutation path in the 1.4.5 series, including a path to the True Copper Shortsword, and its sword sprites were retouched in the 1.4.5.7 hotfix.
